Send Chinese students home
Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, giving the Secretary of War authority to designate military zones, from which any and all persons could be excluded, for “national security” purposes.
Soon thereafter, Public Law 503 was passed by Congress to enforce EO9066. As a result, the entire West Coast was declared a “military zone” and 11,000 Japanese aliens and 106,000 U.S. citizens of Japanese descent were removed from their homes and interned in ten “relocation centers” from California to Arkansas.
In addition to these people, 10,900 aliens and citizens with German-sounding names and 3,200 aliens and citizens with Italian-sounding names were also removed from their homes and placed in “relocation centers’ even though they were not living in military zones. And the American taxpayers paid for all of these unfortunate people’s food, clothing, health care, and schooling.
To top it off, these people were allowed to procreate while interned. They were allowed to return to their homes in the middle of 1946, a year after V-E and V-J days. It was explained to the American people that the relocation of over 130,000 people was necessary for “national security” during war time.
In 2016, President Obama ordered 35 Russians, accused of spying, from the Russian embassy and consulates across the United States to leave the country. And they did. Obama also implemented sanctions against Russia. This was done for “national security” during peace time.
We are told by the federal government that for the past 40 years the People’s Republic of China has been stealing our corporate secrets and intellectual property via spies and computer hacking from Beijing. We are told that the cost of this spying and hacking to America is in the hundreds of billions of dollars, each year!
We are told by the government that today there are 300,000 Chinese in the U.S. on student visas in undergraduate and graduate programs. And we have many thousands of Chinese in America with H-1B visas working in industry and at our national laboratories. If China can hack U.S. computers from Beijing, how much easier is it from anywhere in America, with more than 300,000 Chinese here with computers?
The president can control the visas allocated to six or seven countries harboring known terrorists, because of the threat of terrorism, for “national security” reasons.
I suggest that President Trump terminate, revoke, cancel, or end all Chinese student visas by June 1, 2020 and inform the 300,000 students that they must leave the U.S. by June 30, 2020. They can continue their studies at Chinese universities.
Unlike the millions of illegal aliens scattered across America whose name and location are unknown to the authorities, each visa holder is known and his or her location is known, posing no problem for authorities. This should be done for “national security.” The loss of tuition money to the colleges and universities can easily be made up with a small increase in tuition for their other students.
I also suggest that President Trump terminate, revoke, cancel, or end all H-1B visas held by Chinese citizens by June 1, 2020 and that they be required to return to China by June 30, 2020. He can surely control visas from China because of “national security” concerns. And the industries affected by the removal of these Chinese workers can replace them with American workers.
Just think of how the risk of corporate spying and hacking will be greatly reduced by this simple undertaking, and there will be a tremendous increase in “national security.” And when done in conjunction with the sanctions and tariffs, it might be just what is needed to get the Chinese to the negotiating table.
